Frequently asked questions

What is Metro Greens Farm?

Family owned and operated, urban farm, located in our kitchen in Bristol, UK Our main goal is to supply our local community with fresh and nutritious herbs and greens grown in eco-friendly way. By using our passive hydroponic methods, our greens consume up to 80% Less water then normal growing methods. We stay carbon positive by opting out of using traditional transport and instead use large garden trolleys that perfectly fit our environmental promise. We will work with you and your menu because we are all unique. We are even able to deliver living plants for you to grow and harvest in your own way. Contact us for any information or free samples of any of our currently growing greens.

What are microgreens?

Microgreens are young greens that are approximately 2.5- 7.5 cm tall and full of nutrients. Microgreens aren't just for garnish, they can provide a variety of flavours, such as sweet and spicy, as well as their range of colours.

Where can I buy them?

Visit us at the The Tabacco Factory Market every Sunday from 10am-2:30pm. We deliver in our local area on Wednesdays and also let our customers pick up their greens right from our farm. We do not have a van so deliveries outsite our walking distance would have to be negotiated.

How long is the shelf life of microgreens?

From experience, we found that once harvested, microgreens last over 5 days in the fridge if kept dry and in a proper container. We also offer our full range of products as a "Live" tray. That means the microgreens are not harvested. Instead, you can keep them in your kitchen, or store them in the fridge. Harvesting as you need and making them last as long as you give them a little water every now and then.

Do you use pestecides, herbicides or nutrients?

We only use our in-house filtered water to feed our seedlings. Becuase we only grow to the first "true" leaf of sooner, seedlings have plenty of nutrients stored in their home to survive and thrive.

How do you grow with no soil?

We use:

  • UK made, GDPE food-grade plastic trays
  • Latex-free, non-import Coconut pads
  • Organic UK seeds from trusted suppliers
